ICU & NICU Procedures

Critical care procedures for adults and newborns

ICU and NICU procedures performed by the critical care team with continuous monitoring and 24-hour cover.

About the procedure

What to expect.

In the ICU, that means managing severe infections and sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac emergencies, stroke, trauma and post-surgical recovery. Good to know

Questions about ICU & NICU Procedures.

How long does a patient stay in the ICU?
It depends on the severity of the condition. Some patients need a few days; others need longer care. The team reviews progress daily and keeps you informed.
How is a patient monitored in the ICU?
The team continuously monitors vital signs and organ function. The level of monitoring and support depends on the patient’s condition.
Why are newborns kept in the NICU?
Babies are admitted when they are premature, underweight or have medical complications that need specialised, continuous care their bodies cannot yet manage alone.
Can family members visit ICU or NICU patients?
Visits are scheduled and limited to reduce infection risk and avoid disrupting care. Ask the unit about its current visiting policy.
What are the outcomes of NICU care?
Outcomes depend on gestational age, birth weight, diagnosis and response to treatment. The neonatology team will discuss the individual baby’s condition and outlook.
